You should be able to find the answers to questions you may have about our company and how to use your POM.

What is the POM?

 

 

 

The POM is a keychain-sized personal safety device that instantly and discreetly connects you with friends, family or the nearest emergency responders.

How do I turn the POM On/Off?

To turn ON, hold the side button down until it vibrates once. The device will say “power on”.

To turn OFF, while the device is on hold the side button down until it vibrates once. Release the side button for 1 second, and then hold the side button down again until it vibrates and says, “shut down”

 

 

How do I connect my POM to my phone?

 

 

 

The POM can be connected to a phone in two ways – via a data connection and an audio connection. On iOS devices the POM is connected via both data and audio, while with Android devices the POM is only connected via audio. Both apps will walk you through the process of how to connect the device.

iOS:

1. Hold device over your phone’s screen

2. Turn the device on by holding the side button down for one vibration. Then tap the button THREE times WITHIN 1 second. The device will says, “searching for DATA connection”. If the device says, “searching AUDIO connection” you have to tap it THREE times quicker. It will take two seconds until it says “searching DATA connection”.

3. Select “Scan” in the app

4. Wait 15 – 30 seconds

5. The phone will prompt you to pair with the device. Please select “Pair”

6. The POM will start ringing and you will have to confirm that you POM rang. If you don’t hear the POM ring, you will be taken through the Troubleshooting process to restart the POM and try again.

7. Once you confirm that your POM rang, the device will say, “searching for audio connection” and the light ring will start blinking 3 times.

8. Please go to your Bluetooth settings and select ‘POM xxx Audio’.

9. You are now connected.

Android:

1. Turn the device on by holding the side button down for one vibration. The device will say, “power on”.

2. Tap the side button for TWO times. The device will say “searching for an AUDIO connection”

3. Go to your Bluetooth settings, turn on Bluetooth on and search for “POM xxxx Audio”

4. The POM will start ringing and you will have to confirm that you POM rang. If you don’t hear the POM ring, you will be taken through the Troubleshooting process to restart the POM and try again.

5. You are now connected

 

 

How do I know my POM is on and ready to go?

 

Tap the Emergency Button ONCE, and if the POM vibrates it is on and properly connected to your phone. If the POM doesn’t vibrate, it is not properly connected. If your POM is in your pocket, this is an easy way to check if you are connected without looking at your phone. You can always tell if the POM is properly connected by checking POM Settings in the app. As soon as the POM disconnects the light ring will start blinking.

 

 

How do I create a ||fake phone call?||

 

 

Activate the “POM Out” feature in your POM.ME Setting in the app. Click on the menu and select POM.ME to edit your settings. Toggle on “Fake Phone Call” to activate the feature, and then hold the Center Button down for one vibration. The POM will initiate a call to your phone that you can answer and use as an excuse out of an awkward situation. Save the number in your contacts so the caller ID shows a name of someone who’s “calling” you.

 

How do I discretly text or call my friends with the POM?

 

Activate the “POM-A-Friend” feature in your POM.ME Setting in the app. Click on the menu and select POM.ME to edit your settings. Toggle on “POM Call” or “POM Text” to activate the feature. Make sure that you set a contact by selecting the “POM Call” and “POM Text'”. If selecting “POM Text,” type in the message you would like to send.  Then hold the Center Button down for one vibration. The POM will initiate a call and/or text to your friends.

 

How do I make an emergency call with the POM?

 

With the POM ON and connected, tap the emergency button THREE times. This will initate a voice call through your phone and the POM’s speakers. The POM will immediately send your profile and GPS location to campus safety. If calling from off-campus, the POM will automatically call the nearest 911 dispatcher

 

 

Can I make a test call to practice making an emergency call?

 

 

Yes. You can initiate a test call through the POM app. Go to the menu and select “Start Test Call”. Tap the emergency button THREE times to initiate the test call. The call will not go to Campus Safety or 911. Afterwards, you will get an email with information and metrics about your test calll.

 

How do I use the ||Find My Keys|| feature?

 

First, clip the POM to your keychain. If you keys go missing, open the POM app and click on “Find My Keys.” Then select “Ring POM” to have the POM start ringing and vibrating. Retrace your steps to listen for the POM and locate your misplaced keys.

 

Will campus safety track or follow me?

 

Your privacy and your safety are of utmost importance to us. We will never track or follow you unless the device or mobile app is triggered. Only once the alert is triggered will location data be transmitted to campus safety. Once the alert is resolved, your location is no longer available to campus safety.

 

What if I accidentally make a call?

 

If you accidentally make a call, communicate clearly and quickly to your campus security that it is, in fact, a false alarm. The campus safety staff is trained on how to handle false alerts, and expects they will happen every once and a while during the school year. Please communicate to the dispatcher that there is not an emergency and that you do not require assistance. Every school responds to false alarms differently, so contact your Director of Campus Life/Campus Safety if you have additional questions.

What happens if the location services is turned off?

If your location services is turned off on your phone, the call will still be placed to campus safety and your profile will be available to the dispatcher. However, your GPS location will not displayed on the dispatch software. In event that happens, the dispatcher may ask you to verbally confirm your location.

What happens if my account is deleted?

If your account is deleted you will immediately get a text and email notification informing you the account has been deactivated. If you attempt to make an emergency call with your POM, you will hear a message stating your account is inactive and please call 911.

How do I reset my POM?

 

 

Hold the emergency button and side button down simultaneously for 10 seconds. You will hear the POM say “Reset” and “Shut Down”.

If the device doesn’t react on any button activity please simply charge the device.

 

 

I'm having trouble connecting my POM. How do I troubleshoot?

 

 

If you are having trouble connecting your POM to your phone, click on the Troubleshooting button in your app. This will prompt you to forget “POM Data” and “POM Audio” in your Bluetooth settings. Hold the Center Button and the Side Button down for 10 seconds to reset the POM. The POM is then powered down.

Please turn the POM on and try the connecting process again.
